About
Research Interests:
Stable isotope and elemental geochemistry of carbonates and associated clastic sediments for palaeoclimatic and palaeoenvironmental reconstructions, examining connections between climate, biosphere and tectonics from the Quaternary to the Archaean.
Diagenesis, particularly (but not exclusively) of carbonates, and distinguishing primary from secondary (alteration) features.
FAR-DEEP (Fennoscandia Arctic Russia – Drilling Early Earth Project) team member, examining the oxygen and carbon stable isotope record of Palaeproterozoic shallow marine and lacustrine carbonates from cores drilled by the ICDP ( http://far-deep.icdp-online.org) , including regional vs global controls on the Lomagundi-Jatuli δ13C excursion, and events associated with the major Huronian glaciation.
Examining deposition and diagenesis of non-marine carbonates (tufas, travertines, calcretes and speleothems), including the impact of the arrival and diversification of plants on non-marine carbonates. I do this using a combination of field techniques, petrography and geochemistry.
