About
My current research is based on experiences of work and industrial relations at the British Motor Corporation’s commercial vehicle assembly plant at Bathgate in West Lothian, and covers the years from its opening in 1961 until eventual closure in 1986. My research encompasses regional development policy, motor industry supply chain management and industrial relations theory, and engages with wider debates over the longer-term ‘decline’ of British industry and the perceived role of trade unions in this decline, particularly in the context of the post-war Scottish economy.
