About
I am Professor of Primary Care Research & Development in the Academic Unit of General Practice & Primary Care, University of Glasgow.
I lead research into a number of areas:
The implementation and evaluation of primary care policy, including:
A study exploring the impact of the 2004 General Medical Services contract on primary care in England and Scotland (funded by NIHR Service Delivery & Organisation Programme). For final report, see http://www.sdo.nihr.ac.uk/projdetails.php?ref=08-1618-126
A study evaluating the introduction of an anticipatory care programme for CVD in Scotland (funded by NHS Health Scotland).
Health care for migrant populations including:
A series of projects examining health care provision for asylum seekers in Glasgow (funded by the Scottish Executive and the Chief Scientist Office).
Partner in an EU FP7 project lead by Dr Anne McFarlane, University of Limerick - RESTORE - REsearch into implementation STrategies to support patients of different ORigins and language background in a variety of European primary care settings. See http://www.fp7restore.eu/
Underpining much of the work is the use of Normalisation Process Theory, to help us understand why complex interventions do, or do not, become embedded into routine practice. For more information on NPT, visit http://www.normalizationprocess.org/
I am happy to discuss supervising postgraduate research students in these areas.
